Scarlett Johansson

O que lhe passou pela cabeca? Uma boa ideia. Aquando anunciado esperava menos que isto, ou melhor, esperava algo noutro quadrante musical. O número de tentativas de saltos deste género normalmente acaba numa caixa de cd's a 2,5 euros. Nao que este nao acabe também (há grandes negócios nessas caixas, a minha coleccao de smiths e sonic youth agradece), mas há qualidade suficiente aqui para mais do que uma audicao. Mesmo que possa parecer estranho ao princípio.

"Scarlett Johansson (born November 22, 1984) is an American/Danish film actress. She rose to fame with her role in 1998’s The Horse Whisperer and subsequently became one of Hollywood’s most sought-after young actresses after her critically acclaimed roles in Ghost World, Lost in Translation and Girl with a Pearl Earring, the latter two earning her Golden Globe Award nominations in 2003.

In October 2006, FoxNews reported that Johansson signed to record a music album with Rhino Entertainment’s Atco Records, with a possible release date of spring 2007, which later proved incorrect. The album, which was provisionally entitled Scarlett Sings Tom Waits, will consist of Johansson’s cover versions of ten Tom Waits songs and one original one. The album is set to be released on May 20, 2008."

The National Bank

Isto acaba por tornar-se um pouco num pequeno segredo (ou seja, nada como o fazer um post na net sobre isso). Comecei a ouvir há um dia e ainda nao parei. Qual o problema? Há vários momentos eu que eu sei que em termos de probabilidades... eu nao devia gostar de the national bank. Está bem construído? Sim. Há qualidade musical suficiente? Há. Passa-se que há vários momentos em que as harmonias (sobretudo vocais) vao longe demais. Chega demasiado perto de um barroco. A belaza pela beleza sempre foi estúpida e estéril. De qualquer maneira, sendo que estes ficam na linha intermédia, há dias em que resultam e outros em que nao será possível.

Neste momento, ouco. assim seja. Sem complexos.

"The National Bank is a Norwegian jazz/rock band, whose debut album was released in Norway in 2004 and featured the hit song “Tolerate”.

Consisting of musicians already well-known in their native country, from such bands as Jaga Jazzist and Bigbang, and featuring the accomplished singer-songwriter Thomas Dybdahl on vocals, The National Bank was immediately labeled a “supergroup” in the vein of Cream and Emerson, Lake and Palmer upon their arrival on the music scene.

In February 2008 they released a new album, called “Come On Over To The Other Side”.

A minha crítica nao se referia necessariamente a esta música em particular. Porque de facto nesta nao se nota.

Late of the Pier

Hoje é dia de cinema e por isso posts só sobre música. Nao é bem para aqui chamado mas hoje é dia de estreia de Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull e eu já tenho um bilhete `a espera. Se terá de existir algum herói da minha infância a escolha é fácil. Recentemente visionei a trilogia de seguida, para lembrar velhos tempos.
Devo admitir que em certos momentos eu senti alguma mímica entre a personagem e a minha própria personalidade. Estarei louco? É bem provável. Pelo menos foi o suficiente para ficar com uma expressao semi-parva. O que terá isto de relacionado com Late of the Pier? Boa sorte, eu nao faco ideia.

Só para dizer que, no final de contas, eu nunca me tornei arqueólogo, e já agora, nem professor.

O som encontra-se permeado de Gary Numan e Brian Eno, nao é a primeira vez que o fazem. Neste caso nao me chateia. Se é por uma questao de similitudes, mais vale a parecenca com uma sonoridade de qualidade.

Nunca gostei de tops. Logo isto é tudo menos um. trata-se mero Index do que correu pelos leitores durante a semana. Claro que há uma seleccao mas nao há hierarquias. Como diria eloquentemente em tempos: "isso é parvoíce pa!"

Before the Devil Knows You're Dead e Die Fälscher

Ambos drama, ambos crimes, ambos thriller e por aí em diante. No fim de contas acabam por ser simultaneamente conflitos com os valores de cada um de nós e sobretudo a verificacao de quais os limites para estes. Quem somos nós em relacao aos outros, quantos dos outros sao precisos para fazer um de nós.

Com finais díspares, demonstram a facilidade de as respostas penderem para qualquer um dos lado da fina linha vermelha. Se calhar, mais do que isso, demonstram a impossibilidade de nos balancearmos, de um pé só, sobre essa mesma linha. No fim de contas, eventualmente, acabaremos por tender para um ou outro lado. Resta-nos esperar que a queda nao seja feita de cabeca.

The Last Shadow Puppets e Nosaj Thing

Sábado que é hoje e que podia ser a semana passada. Surpresa das surpresas... de novo a trabalhar. Este trabalho "nao trabalho" que requer grande capacidade intelectual e perspicácia (nao) e que desenvolve em mim tiques ou espasmos involuntários (nada redundante), dando-me a bela oportunidade de passar longos dias de sol fechado dentro de um quarto (felicidade!). Mentira. Pelo menos hoje nao há sol para ninguém.

Estes sao dois meninos encontrados esta semana. Isto precisava de posts mais frequentes, até poderia ser interessante postar tudo aquilo que disse olá `a biblioteca em cada semana mas isso é capaz de ser ir longe demais, sobretudo porque é mesmo o tipo de coisa que ao fim de umas semanas nao teria acompanhamento. Espera aí... mmm (ideia!?!?).

Nao consigo parar de ouvir Nosaj Thing... Faz-me lembrar o verao de 2003, paredes brancas, múm, o cheiro das laranjeiras, as tardes de vento de sol, baleal.

Lykke Li

Nao é de agora que os suecos comecaram a demonstrar grande qualidade (e mais recentemente quantidade) de producao musical.

Mando Diao, The Hives, Those Dancing Days, The Knife, Johnossi, Peter Bjorn & John, Jens Lekman, Shout Out Louds, José Gonzalez, Sally Shapiro, Esbjörn Svensson Trio... e isto pode ir longe demais. Com uma lista destas constantemente a aumentar eu nao percebi como é que ainda consigo me surpreender quando mais um salta `a vista. Pois mais um saltou. Neste caso uma.

"Li Lykke Timotej Zachrisson (born March 18, 1986 in Stockholm, Sweden), better known by her stage name Lykke Li, is an indie singer.

She was raised by artistic parents (her mother was a photographer, her father is a musician) and lived in Portugal for five years, and spent winters in Nepal and India. At one point, she worked as a dancer on Swedish TV shows.

She released her first album, Youth Novels on LL Recordings in the Nordic region on 4 February 2008 and it will receive a wider European release this June. The album was produced by Björn Yttling of Peter Bjorn and John and Lasse Marten. It will be released in the US on 6 May 2008. The album will be released in the UK on June 9th.

She had some success with the EP "Little Bit" in 2007. Stereogum named her an artist to watch in October 2007 and described her music as a mix of soul, electro and powdered-sugar pop."

The Darjeeling Limited

Estava difícil mas eventualmente lá cheguei. Existem mil e uma razoes para eu ver um filme mas uma coisa é certa, mesmo que rapidamente adquirido, um filme pode passar meses (para nao dizer anos...) na minha prateleira até aquela tarde de constipacao em que por qualquer razao... calhou. Nada tem haver com conjecturas de se valerá a pena ou nao. Simplesmente é o meu modo esquiso de seleccao.

Neste caso particular ainda mais problemático foi. Tenho aqui `a minha frente o bilhete para a sua ante-estreia datada de outubro passado. Bilhete que permanece por rasurar... Festival de Cinema de Ljubljana e o erro de comprar demasiados bilhetes para tao pouco tempo.


Wes Anderson nao surpreende, o que neste caso é de aplaudir. Continua com o seu sentido de humor sem gargalhadas, com o seu disfuncionalismo nas relacoes humanas e de como mesmo neste ainda podemos encontrar bases comuns. Para quem gosta do freak em cada um de nós.

"Three American brothers who have not spoken to each other in a year set off on a train voyage across India with a plan to find themselves and bond with each other -- to become brothers again like they used to be. Their "spiritual quest", however, veers rapidly off-course (due to events involving over-the-counter pain killers, Indian cough syrup, and pepper spray), and they eventually find themselves stranded alone in the middle of the desert with eleven suitcases, a printer, and a laminating machine. At this moment, a new, unplanned journey suddenly begins."

The mist

Desde criança que sempre tive um certo fascínio por filmes de terror. Com o passar dos anos este gosto foi evoluindo e tornando-se refinado. Os anos oitenta foram prolíficos neste género e após uma certa estagnação durante os noventa, estes voltaram já há algum tempo sobretudo com o crescente interesse no horror asiático aquando do virar do século.

Sempre vi muitos o que inclui também muitos que não tinham qualidade, quer de imagem quer escrita. Este vi há pouco tempo e merece ser mencionado. Há vários elementos nele que não são do meu total agrado, sobretudo visuais (dão uma perspectiva um pouco tola do filme), mas a escrita está muito bem conseguida bem como os momentos de tensão de grupo. Juntando a isto um final bastante interessante acho que vale a pena uma olhadela.

When his son, Billy Drayton, his neighbor Brent Norton, and himself travel to the supermarket, the unthinkable happens. On their way to the market, they see the army, the firefighters, and the police, heading toward the mist. When he sees this Brent mentions something about "Project Arrowhead", a secret military plan that no one knows about. As they are shopping, they see three army men walk in, just to pick up a few things then head toward the mist. All eighty of the store's shoppers had no clue what was going on until an old man runs in the market with a bloody nose and declares "Something in the mist!""

The Pigeon Detectives e Gotye

Qual não foi a minha surpresa quando dei de caras com duas bandas quase semelhantes e que aparentemente se desconheciam. Nesta senda de lutar contra tudo o que é triste, o contributo destas é enorme.

Estas não só disponibilizam minutos de descontração mas também garantem um ou dois copos a mais de vodka (leia-se vodka). Hoje garantem mais umas horas acordado tendo em conta que tive a brilhante ideia de não dormir antes de ir para o aeroporto às seis da manhã (parvoíce pa!).

Depois de 5 repetições até já fiquei mais alegre.

"Originarios de Rothwell, Leeds os The Pigeon Detectives apenas 4 anos depois da sua formação foram etiquetados pela NME como, “the band most likely to leap to the main stage in 2007”, após as suas actuações nos festivais locais.

Os Pigeons Detectives lançaram em Maio deste ano (2007) o seu primeiro album “Wait For Me”, que foi lançado em CD, Vinyl e Download. O album foi gravado no Outono de 2006 e foi produzido por Will jackson (Kaiser Chiefs / Embrace) e misturado por Cenzo Townshend (Snow Patrol / Kaiser Chiefs / Bloc Party) e Steve Harris ( The Automatic / U2)."

Gotye’s sound is a melting pot of samples from sources far and wide, mixed with Wally’s vocals and home recorded sounds to form original songs that are as likely to channel ’80s New Romantic pop or ’60s Motown soul as they are to be experiments in kooky turntablism or progressive trip-hop landscapes. The results are songs that both reference and incorporate styles and sounds of the past, but bear a distinctly contemporary outlook."


Obviamente estas bandas nada tem haver uma com a outra, uma nem sequer é uma banda.
Aquilo que faço numa directa para me manter estupidamente ocupado.

Miracle Fortress

Estou no encontro de uma espiral. Daquelas à moda antiga, feitas de adolescentes e noites sentado.

Vim e vou, de visita a um sítio que não deixa de ser eu. Digo olá Lisboa, adeus. Digo olá amor, adeus. Preciso de um cubo de gelo projectado à cabeça. De parar com a comiseração da fraqueza auto-induzida e lembrar que é na parvoíce que está a felicidade.

Por isso esta música nem sequer a estou a ouvir agora. Não é suficientemente sombria. A mesma razão pela qual ela vai aqui. Para sombrio já basto eu.
